Bamberg

Our day started really gently with an hour's guided meditation. The entertainers on the ship, Amy and Ludo from Mellow Yellow Duo, moonlight as fitness instructors, creative activities directors and zen masters. This morning they ran a meditation with Ludo playing meditation music and Amy using Buddhist bowls to create a sound bath and (wait for it), tuning forks to recalibrate areas of our psyche. Sounds a bit weird but it was really, really nice.

Later in the morning, the nice APT people organised a streaming of the Crows/Pies qualifying final which a group of us watched and (in my case) really enjoyed.

After lunch, we headed off to Bamberg. We did a guided tour of the city. It is similar to Wurzburg in many ways although Bamberg's buildings are mostly original as they avoided a lot of damage in WW2. I preferred Wurzburg, to be honest. Partly that was because it was pretty hot this afternoon and I had a little bit of a Cointreau hangover bothering me.

We have had so many fabulous experiences in the last week but, right now, I am feeling very disappointed. Tomorrow, we were scheduled to visit Nuremberg. This was one of the highlights of the trip for me. Ian and I had chosen to visit the Nazi Party Rally Grounds and Courtroom 600 in the Palace of Justice where the Nuremberg Trials happened. Because we need to transfer ships to the Ostara tomorrow, they have cancelled our Nuremberg activities. We will still have a tour of the city but we won't get to go to the WW2 sites. It is so unfortunate that this is the day they have to alter because it was the day I was looking forward to mostly. I will get over it (maybe) but it is a blow.

  1. Sorry to hear about Nuremberg, that would be disappointing such an important part of history. I’m still trying to picture Dr Hoyle with his ankles wrapped around his neck chanting “hommmmm” with a picture of serenity like Buddha on his face….

  2. So glad you got to visit those key sites in Nuremberg - I went to the rally grounds and courtroom 600 last year too.
