Rudesheim
We spent most of the morning cruising through a beautiful stretch of the Rhine. Lots of cute towns and castles. Our captain successfully negotiated the Loreley, a narrow and treacherous stretch of the Rhine. We docked in Rudesheim, a town in the Hesse region of Germany. Ian and I did a cable car ride to the Niederwald Monument. The views over the town were incredible and the monument is spectacular. It was built to commemorate the unification of Germany in 1871. It is absolutely enormous and has loads of interesting details on it. It was an unexpected highlight for me.
We had a short walk around the town and a quick beer (naturally) before heading back to the boat. Ian and I had an invitation to the Owner's Cellar. This is a private dining room where they serve a five course degustation menu with paired wines. We were already impressed with the food on the Solara but this was a whole other level. Absolutely fabulous. We got to meet some other guests. Like any tour of this nature, there are people you really get along with and people you don't really click with.
After dinner, there was a music trivia night which was lots of fun. As expected, our group scored the most points for music knowledge but failed on the idiotic "bonus points" section. Ian's air guitar just didn't match some of the other drunk fools.

Sounding fabulous! And how fancy to be invited to the Owners Cellar! Loving the photos
ReplyDeleteSo no photos of Ian’s air guitar???
